This issue of Young Saint Louis.com marks the 60th monthly edition for the website for kids in the metro St. Louis area. That's five full years of publication. Illinois kids try for Storytelling Festival spots
Seventh-graders at Millstadt (Ill.) Consolidated School are competing to be the best storyteller in their class. Their award will include more than a good grade.

Environment
Kids try to help area rivers, streams

For 4th graders at the New City School, their classroom study of rivers and streams turned into something bigger. Their out-of-class activities put them on the cover of the most recent Missouri Resources magazine.

Chess
Sperreng 8th grade chess team wins state title

Seven years ago, Sam Kassis founded the 8th grade chess team at Sperreng Middle School. The team had no coach, just an advisor. Sam said they did "horribly" in state competition.

This month's book reviews

Stories about a slave boy who rides for the Pony Express, a girl who tells everyone she has been misplaced in the wrong family, an immigrant girl growing up in a Brooklyn neighborhood in the 1940's, and a boy and his unusual dog who are the key to saving hundreds of lives.

Karabells look forward to new bike ride series

Brothers Gabe, Alex and Eli Karabell like to ride their bicycles in Forest Park. There's a new series of family bike rides that starts in May that will suit them perfectly.

Saving Money
Teaching kids to save--not just spend--money
Kids usually learn how to spend money on their own at an early age. This month, St. Louis bankers are going into classrooms explain another use for money-saving it.

Music
Teen's family filled with musicians
Eighth grader David Ramos certainly has the family credentials for being a musician. Both his parents play in the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and two older sisters are studying music in college.

Tutoring
Mathews-Dickey tutoring program helps kids

Eight-year-old Aryes Byrd is getting a boost in her efforts to improve her writing ability. She's following an older sister and brother in getting tutoring help at Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club.
