April's Math Mania is Challenge 24
(Part II)
You
were introduced to the Challenge 24-type of questions in the
December, 2007, edition. They are problems that require you
to use different math symbols to make the four numbers of
each puzzle come out to a final answer of 24.
Ms. Math Mania, teacher Amy Ruzicka of St.
Gabriel School, gave you a first look at this sort of puzzle
four months ago. This is Part II.
That means that you can go back to December's YSL.com
edition and study the same sort of puzzle. But, even more
importantly, by going to the January, 2008, edition you can
find out the answers.
That should give you a better chance of answering the April
problems.
Remember, with the YSL.com Math Mania, you
don't have to worry about any grades. You get a chance to
try different types of math problems strictly for fun---and
for a chance to win a Border's book certificate.
YSL.com checks all completed entries and picks those
with all answers correct. Then, there is a random drawing
and kids get a chance at $10 certificates.
The Math Mania competition is open to kids
8 to 13 around the metro St. Louis area. An entry blank and
questions for April are listed below.
To enter the April contest, fill out the attached entry form
and give answers to the questions. Be sure to follow instructions
when completing the entry form.
In the May edition of YSL.com, we'll publish the answers
to these April puzzles and name any winners.
