December's "Fun with Math"

Figuring prices on three make-believe planets

Puzzle inventor George Yu has come up with three unique "Fun with Math" questions for December that call for you to figure the logic behind the pricing of things on three imaginary planets.

The answers won't be in dollars and cents.

In each question, he gives you the prices of three things and expects you to figure out the price of the fourth, based on the pattern developed for the first three.

The answer to the first question involves the size of the words. The second answer involves the size of the word and the different quality of the letters.

The third question deals with a combination of what you've learned from the first two questions.

That all sounds a little jumbled and it is. But, once the patterns are figured, the answers become clear.

After how well you did in answering the questions in the first two months, Mr. Yu deserves a chance to step up the difficulty to test your limits. Lets show him!!
