Black History Month
1. Black history events at St. Louis county libraries
Four star performers will give multiple performances to highlight the St. Louis County libraries' Black History programming during February. In addition, some individual branches have scheduled additional activities.

2. Black history events at St. Louis city libraries
The St. Louis Public Library has a varied program for Black History Month in February. The special keynote speaker will be one of the nine students who integrated the Little Rock schools in the 1950s.

Basketball
Two wheelchair athletes to Mizzou
Casey Adams and Bobby Voss have birth defects that paralyzed their legs. But, that hasn't kept them from signing letters of intent to play basketball at Mizzou next fall.

Books
This month's book reviews

February book reviews include stories about an orphan boy who befriends a mermaid family, young girls forced to work in factories in 1900, an Indian attack on pioneer settlers' crude fort, and a present day boy caught up in a ghost's efforts to find who had murdered him in colonial times.

Clowns
Kids find "clowning around" is a good thing
When Rebecca Clay and her little brother, Joe, are "clowning around," that's a good thing. They're part of the MUMChuckles Clowns team that gives shows at nursing homes, hospitals and community events.

Filmmaking
Filmmaking accident sends one kid to the hospital
Thirteen-year-old Molly Judd earned a unique distinction while helping make a movie at St. Clement Catholic School. While filming a scene, she fell off a chair and earned a trip to a nearby hospital.

12 Winners in Show-Me a Movie contest
Four elementary, four middle and four high school moviemaking teams won first places in the 2005 Show-Me a Movie contest. The competition was sponsored by the Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis.

Crime detection
Kids get lots of crime investigation information
Twelve-year-old Olivia Rhodes says she'd like to be a crime scene investigator when she grows up. Last month, she had lots of chances to explore that field at the St. Louis Science Center.

Safe hunters
Kids learn to be complete, safe hunters
Eleven-year-old Allen Rayfield and 10-year-old Joe Hayes II already have had success with deer hunting. But, now they're in a program to learn how to be a complete-and safe-hunter.

Earth Day
Alternative fuels, a "green market"
St. Louis Earth Day 2006 will give kids new looks at ways they can help to make our community and world cleaner and better. The activities and exhibits will include alternative fuels as well as a "green market."

Math Mania
1. February's Math Mania numbers back to numbers
The more familiar Math Mania number problems are back for the February competition. That's after the math cartooning experiment in January.

The January Math Mania cartooning competition entries answered one problem: there are ways to mix math humor with editorial cartooning.
