All-girl team wins spot in robotics state meet
Nine girls on the G.I.R.L.S. robotic team will be competing in their FIRST Lego League (FLL) state championship tournament this month. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 9.

World robotics tourney
West County team to world robotics tourney again
The Oddly Charged Particles team has qualified again for the First Tech Challenge world robotics championship. And they've set out a busy schedule to improve their robot before that meet in Atlanta, GA, in April.

Nine-year-old Cory White certainly had a good excuse for not returning to school until after the holidays. Last August, before the school year started, his body started to reject his transplanted heart.

For 9-year-old Gregory Williams, his St. Louis stopover in October was a high point of a 4-month cross-country ride with his parents on a 3-seater bicycle.

Twelve-year-old Clare Blase was one of several area kids who earned roles in last month's Joffrey Ballet's performance of "The Nutcracker" at the Fox Theater.

Hazelwood West kid is first in state investing game
George Sweidan came to this country five years ago from the Middle East. Last month, the Hazelwood West junior scored highest in the statewide Stock Market Game's fall investing competition.

O'Fallon youth catches a record-setting herring
Teenager Jim Lucas of O'Fallon, MO, has had his September catch of a skipjack herring fish certified as a Missouri state record. And he's on the lookout for other record-setting catches.

To start the new year, "Fun with Math" author George Yu wants you to figure out answers to the January puzzlers by a process of elimination, using what you know about two different things.

Ten winners for "planetary costs" puzzlers
