Children’s Press puts out a paperback series about sports stars such as Troy Aikman, Brett Hull, Scottie Pippin, Monica Seles, Tiger Woods, and dozens more.  The one titled Mark McGwire, Home Run King probably has the most appeal for young St. Louis sports fans. The little book covers “Big Mac’s” life from the time he was a little leaguer up to his present role as super home run hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals.  Also included are pictures, both in black and white and in color, of his baseball playing days from his time at the University of Southern California to his record setting year with the Cardinals. Some might be surprised to find out Mark started out as a pitcher rather than a heavy hitter.   The text for the book was written by sportswriter, Mark Stewart.  Published by Children’s Press, a Division of Grolier Publishing, the 48 page book sells for $5.95.
