Six entrants got all April questions correct

Six kids got all of the answers for the April "Fun with Math" puzzles correct as the house painting questions didn't seem to be too hard for the entrants.

Those getting all the answers correct were:

Monica Chavan, of Edwardsville, IL; Dani Kirsch, of Edwardsville, IL; Durga Kullakanda, of Maryland Heights, MO; Wes Schoenthal, of Edwardsville, IL; Chad Turner, of Glen Carbon, IL, and Ryan Wahidi, of Creve Coeur, MO.

In a random drawing, the $10 Border's book certificates were awarded to:

Monica Chavan and Durga Kullakanda.

Solution for the April, 2010, "Fun with Math" questions

  1. 3(13) = 39 days.

  2. We split each house into 12 equal parts. In one day, Geoffrey paints 12/3 = 4 parts. In one day, Huck paints 12/4 = 3 parts. Each day, they paint a total of 4+3 = 7 parts. Each house has 12 parts to paint. There are 12(14) = 168 total part to paint. It will take them 168/7 = 24 days.

  3. We split each house into 12 equal parts. In one day, Geoffrey paints 12/3 = 4 parts. In one day, Huck paints 12/4 = 3 parts. In one day, Tom paints 12/6 = 2 parts. In each day, they paint a total of 4+3+2 = 9 parts. Each house has 12 parts to paint. There are 12(15) = 180 total parts to paint. It will take them 180/9 = 20 days.
